10 Automated Email Flows Every eCommerce Store Needs
Explore essential automated email flows that drive sales and customer engagement for eCommerce stores at every step of the customer journey.
Shopify email marketing
Shopify email marketing starts with Shopify Messaging, formerly Shopify Email, which sends campaigns and simple automations from your Shopify admin. Enflow Digital adds what stores outgrow it for: full flows, segments and SMS in Klaviyo or Omnisend, planned and run by one team.

Shopify email marketing has three layers. Shopify sends the basics itself, an email platform such as Klaviyo or Omnisend adds the flows and segments, and an agency plans and runs the work.
Shopify Messaging, formerly Shopify Email, sends email, SMS and WhatsApp campaigns from your Shopify admin. Its automation templates cover abandoned checkout, cart and browse, welcome, post-purchase, win-back, birthdays and VIP customers. The first 10,000 emails each month are free (Shopify Help Center, read 7 November 2026).
Klaviyo and Omnisend install as Shopify apps and sync your customers, orders, products and browsing. Klaviyo records store events such as Checkout Started, Added to Cart and Fulfilled Order, so a flow can react to each one (Klaviyo's Shopify data reference, read 7 November 2026). Both send SMS from the same account.
As an ecommerce email marketing agency, we work inside the Klaviyo or Omnisend account you choose, connected to your Shopify store. You keep the account, the data and every template. A store that needs only a few campaigns a month can stay on Shopify Messaging, and we say so on the first call.
Shopify Email, now Shopify Messaging, suits a store starting out, because it is built into Shopify and the first 10,000 emails a month are free. Klaviyo and Omnisend suit stores that want more flows, deeper segments and SMS from one account. Each cell comes from the vendor's own pages, read on 7 November 2026; the last row is our view.
| What to compare | Shopify Messaging | Klaviyo | Omnisend |
|---|---|---|---|
| Store data | Built into Shopify, with no app to connect | Profiles, orders, the product catalog and consent, through its Shopify integration | Contacts, products, orders, cart activity, browsing and customer tags, through its Shopify app |
| History on day one | No sync needed; it uses your Shopify data directly | The last 90 days first, then up to 10 years | Most stores within an hour, up to 24 hours |
| Automations | Templates for checkout, cart and browse recovery, welcome, post-purchase, win-back, birthdays and VIPs | Flows on store events such as Checkout Started, Added to Cart, Placed Order and Fulfilled Order | Automations on synced orders, cart activity and browsing |
| Segments | Shopify customer segments | Segments on profiles and store events, Shopify customer tags included | Segments on shopping history, engagement and profile data |
| SMS | Per message by country, such as $0.012 in the US and $0.06 in the UK | SMS and MMS in the same account; the free plan includes $5 of mobile messages a month | Charged separately, per message, by country and volume |
| Forms and pop-ups | The free Shopify Forms app, installed separately | Klaviyo sign-up forms, shown through its Shopify app embed | Pop-ups and sign-up forms in its Shopify app |
| Price basis | 10,000 free emails a month, then $1 per 1,000 emails up to 300,000 | Free to 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month; paid plans by active profiles | Free to 250 contacts and 500 emails a month; paid plans by contacts |
| Who it suits (our view) | A store starting out, with a few campaigns a month | A larger store that segments in detail on store events | A small or mid-sized store that wants email, SMS and push in one account |

Shopify founders usually call us with one of four problems. Here they are in their own words, with what we change.
Omnisend's Lone Wolf Paintball story describes the same start, with “essentially nothing” beyond Shopify's default abandoned checkout email. We add welcome, browse, cart, post-purchase and win-back flows next.
Klaviyo prices by active profiles, the contacts you can market to. We suppress profiles that stopped opening, and say so when Omnisend would cost less for the same flows.
Review, loyalty, back in stock and pop-up apps often send emails of their own. We map who sends what, switch off the doubles and run every message from one account.
Klaviyo and Omnisend both send SMS from the account that sends your email. Our SMS marketing service plans texts and emails on one calendar, under one consent setup.

We build these six flows first on a Shopify store. Each card gives the Shopify trigger, the timing and what the message says.
Trigger: Checkout Started with no order, and a separate flow on Added to Cart.
Timing: within hours, then the next day.
What it says: the items left behind, reviews and a link that rebuilds the cart. Shopify Messaging's own abandoned checkout email is switched off, so nobody gets two.
Trigger: Viewed Product with no cart, which needs the Klaviyo or Omnisend app embed switched on in your Shopify theme.
Timing: a few hours after the visit.
What it says: the product they looked at, what buyers say about it and similar items.
Trigger: a sign-up through a form or the consent box at Shopify checkout.
Timing: at once, then a few more emails over the first week.
What it says: who you are, your best sellers and a reason to place the first order.
Trigger: Placed Order, then Fulfilled Order from Shopify.
Timing: at the order, at shipping and a few days after delivery.
What it says: what happens next, how to use the product, and a review request once it has arrived.
Trigger: no order for longer than your usual time between orders.
Timing: in steps, with an offer only in the last email.
What it says: what is new since their last order and why to come back.
Trigger: a Shopify Flow workflow that tags a customer, such as VIP or Wholesale.
Timing: as soon as the tag syncs to Klaviyo or Omnisend.
What it says: early access for VIPs, or a separate price list and reorder reminders for wholesale buyers.
Four connections decide what your Shopify email can do. We set each one up and check it before the first flow sends.
Klaviyo's integration syncs profiles, orders, the catalog and email and SMS consent. It syncs the last 90 days first, then up to 10 years. Viewed Product tracks once the Klaviyo app embed is on (Klaviyo, read 7 November 2026).
Omnisend's Shopify app syncs contacts, products, orders, cart activity, browsing and customer tags. On a Shopify 2.0 theme the Omnisend app embed must be on, or tracking does not work (Omnisend, read 7 November 2026).
Shopify Flow is a free Shopify app on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans (Shopify, read 7 November 2026). It runs actions when store events happen, such as tagging a customer. Klaviyo and Omnisend both sync Shopify customer tags, so a tag can start a segment or a flow.
On Shopify Plus, Klaviyo's app block can collect SMS consent on the checkout pages. Only Plus stores can collect transactional SMS consent there; other plans use the thank you and order status pages (Klaviyo, read 7 November 2026).
Tracking comes with the apps. We also add UTM tags to every email and SMS link, so Google Analytics can credit each sale to the message that brought it.
Every flow sends only to people who agreed to get it. Shopify collects that consent at checkout and in its forms, and three settings matter most.
Shopify's checkout can show an email marketing consent box, and you choose the regions where it is ticked in advance. Shopify says its recommended regions are not legal advice, so we check them against your markets first (Shopify, read 7 November 2026).
Shopify never ticks the SMS box in advance, and SMS marketing is a separate setting from order texts. The TCPA sets the US rules; PECR and UK GDPR set the UK rules. Klaviyo syncs SMS consent only when someone first subscribes in Shopify, so we import earlier SMS subscribers.
Klaviyo can add Shopify's email subscribers to a list and send profile data back to Shopify. We decide which way consent syncs, then check that an unsubscribe in one system shows in the other before the first send.
Enflow Digital is a marketing agency, not a law firm. Your lawyer approves consent wording.
Founders and marketing leads of ecommerce brands describe their work with Enflow Digital. The reviews do not say which store platform each brand sells on.

CMO of Two Wheels Empire
We've just launched our automations and they are already bringing us sales! The team displayed an impressive level of expertise and professionalism throughout our collaboration. Communication with their team was always smooth and on point. Would recommend to anyone!

Founder of Alkaline Herb Shop
Enflow Digital is the best company I have ever worked with. They are professional and on top of everything. They also create the most beautiful emails and have a lot of experience doing the work they do. I love that they do the research to help me come up with the best campaigns and that they have taken the time to learn our store. The emails they craft are usually filled with upsells, and the visuals are unparalleled.

Founder of The Truth Beauty Company
We hired Enflow to audit and improve our automations and the rates tell the story! And a happy story it is! We have seen a lot of growth - and recognize the potential to see more growth. Julius and his team work quickly and provide very robust reports! 1000% would I work with Enflow again!

Founder of Cinch Skin
Omnisend recommended I give Enflow Digital a try and they did not disappoint. They worked quickly and efficiently and made some great changes to our flows and promotional emails. They also understood our brand perfectly (both tone of voice and creative) I would recommend this team for anyone wanting a stress free partnership. Thank you!

The Enflow Digital Team is dependable, professional, and provides top notch content. They took so much work off our plates by managing our email marketing and got us amazing results.
Shopify email marketing with an agency costs our fee plus your email platform's plan. Our retainers run from $2,000 to $10,000+ per month, and the scope of your account sets where you land.
$2,000 to $10,000+ per month
Our fee only. These factors move it within the range.
How many flows need building or rebuilding, Shopify Flow hand-offs included.
How many email campaigns go out each month.
Whether texts run beside your email.
How much custom design and copywriting each email needs.
A one-off setup or ongoing monthly work.
Your platform bills you separately. Shopify Messaging gives 10,000 free emails a month, then charges $1 per 1,000 emails up to 300,000, and its abandoned checkout emails are always free (Shopify Help Center, read 7 November 2026). Klaviyo prices by active profiles and Omnisend by contacts. Our email marketing agency pricing guide explains the usual fee models.
We set up a Shopify store in five steps, from the app install to the first monthly report.
We read your Shopify Messaging automations, your apps, your flows, your list health and your order data, then rank the fixes by the revenue they can bring.
We install the Klaviyo or Omnisend app, switch on its app embed in your theme, and check that customers, orders and products have synced.
We write, design and build the flows, highest earners first, and switch off each Shopify Messaging automation a new flow replaces.
We group customers by order history, products bought and Shopify customer tags.
We test subject lines, timing and offers, and report revenue by flow and by campaign each month.
Klaviyo, Omnisend and Brevo all work with Shopify stores. The right one depends on your list size, your channels and your budget.
Klaviyo suits Shopify stores that segment in detail on store events, with SMS in the same account. Its Shopify integration brings in up to 10 years of order history.
Omnisend suits small and mid-sized Shopify stores that want email, SMS and push in one simpler account. Lone Wolf Paintball moved to Omnisend with us.
Brevo suits Shopify stores with a large list on a tight budget, because it prices by send volume rather than by contacts. On Shopify it connects through the Brevo PushOwl app; Brevo's older Shopify app was not available on the Shopify App Store on 7 November 2026.
Enflow Digital is not the right agency for every Shopify store. Four cases come up most.
Karolina Uvarkina and Julius Urbanavicius run Enflow Digital every day. Our team of project managers, copywriters and designers does the account work.

Yes. Shopify Messaging, formerly Shopify Email, is Shopify's own tool for email, SMS and WhatsApp campaigns, sent from your Shopify admin. Stores on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans can use it, and the first 10,000 emails each month are free. It also has automation templates, such as abandoned checkout, welcome and win-back.
Shopify Email, now Shopify Messaging, is good enough for a store that sends a few campaigns and the basic automations. Stores outgrow it when they want flows with more steps, segments built on browsing and product data, or SMS planned with email in one account. Then Klaviyo or Omnisend, connected through its Shopify app, does more.
Use Shopify Email, now Shopify Messaging, for simple campaigns and templates inside Shopify at a low cost. Use Klaviyo for flows on store events such as Checkout Started and Added to Cart, detailed segments and SMS in one account. Klaviyo's free plan covers 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month, and paid plans are priced by active profiles.
Shopify Messaging gives 10,000 free emails a month, then costs $1 per 1,000 emails up to 300,000, and abandoned checkout emails are always free. Klaviyo prices by active profiles and Omnisend by contacts, with SMS billed separately. An agency adds its fee on top. Enflow Digital's retainers run from $2,000 to $10,000+ per month.
In Shopify Messaging, pick the Recover abandoned cart or Recover abandoned checkout automation template, edit it and turn it on. In Klaviyo, build one flow on Added to Cart and one on Checkout Started, and filter shoppers who start checkout out of the cart flow. Added to Cart needs the Track behavioral events setting switched on. Our abandoned cart email guide lists the Shopify steps.
Shopify Plus changes less than most stores expect, because Shopify Messaging and Shopify Flow run on Plus as on the other plans. The change we use most is checkout. On Plus, Klaviyo's app block can collect SMS consent on the checkout pages, and only Plus stores can collect transactional SMS consent there.
Yes. Shopify Messaging sends SMS to a list of countries, priced per message, such as $0.012 in the US and $0.06 in the UK. A US or Canadian toll-free number adds $2.15 a month. Klaviyo and Omnisend send SMS too, from the account that sends your email. We plan both channels under one consent setup.
You own the account and the designs. We work in your own Klaviyo, Omnisend or Shopify Messaging account, connected to your Shopify store. Your customer data stays in Shopify and in your email platform, and every flow and template stays in your account if you stop working with us.
The first flows go live as soon as you approve them. We install the app and check the sync first, then build the welcome and abandonment flows, which usually earn the most. Each flow switches on after you sign off its copy and design, and we switch off any Shopify Messaging automation it replaces.
It depends on the time left and the health of your list, so start with the free audit as early as you can. A Shopify list that has not been mailed for months needs smaller sends first, or more of your Black Friday emails land in spam. After the audit we tell you what is realistic in the time left.
